Hoover Dam, once known as Boulder Dam, is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the U.S. states of Arizona and Nevada. When completed in 1936, it was both the world’s largest electric-power generating station and the world’s largest concrete structure. It was surpassed in both these respects by the Grand Coulee Dam in 1945. It is currently the world’s 35th-largest hydroelectric generating station.

To provide much more highway capacity, and better safety, the new Hoover Dam Bypass is scheduled to be completed in 2010 and it will divert the U.S. 93 traffic 1,500 ft (460 m) downstream from the dam.[31] The bypass will include a composite steel and concrete arch bridge, tentatively named the Mike O’Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge.

History:

Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge has significant cultural importance to the Paiute people and has historically been utilized by native people for thousands of years. Numerous sites, including rock art and rock structures, are preserved of maintain their cultural value. Rock paintings (pictographs) and peckings (petroglyphs) are numerous on the refuge and are protected by federal law. One cultural site, listed in the National Register of Historical Places, is thought to have been a place where people sought knowledge and power, conducted ceremonies, and communicated with spiritual beings.

The Pahranagat Valley is also rich in pioneer history. The first settlers were interested in ranching and farming. The natural springs provided an abundance of water with which to raise crops and provide grazing. One historical building on the refuge, the Walden house, is said to be one of the original pioneer dwelling of this area. The structure is made of stone, originally constructed around 1864.

The base develops new planes such as the stealth bomber. The secrecy shrouding Area 51 has given rise to suspicions over the years, earning the town of Rachel (primarily a collection of trailer homes) the title “UFO Capital of the World,” and Nevada State Highway 375 “Alien Highway”. The film focuses on the everyday people of Rachel, once left alone to service the military, now the center of tourism and a publicity boom. There are enough stories and photos to persuade even the most die-hard skeptics that something extraterrestrial may be going on. We do not promise you to see a real saucer but a journey into a myth.

The Black Canyon is the canyon where Hoover Dam was built. It is located on the Colorado River in the United States. The Nevada and Arizona border is right in the middle of the Colorado River. Black Canyon is surrounded by the El Dorado Mountains, which were formed about 15 million years ago during the Miocene Basin and Range uplift. Black Canyon gets its name from the black volcanic rocks that are found throughout the area.

Below the dam, swift currents can exist, depending on water releases. Several boaters have drowned in this stretch. Inexperienced boaters should be accompanied by a certified guide and should not attempt this stretch alone. Also, when canoeing or kayaking down Black Canyon you must be aware that water releases could take your boat away.

Just south of the Hoover Dam on the Nevada side of the canyon is the Sauna Cave. This cave was drilled by miners working on Hoover Dam while it was being constructed. It is a deep cave with calcium carbonate crystals on the walls. At the end of the cave is a hot spring, which causes temperatures in the cave to reach 120 °F

One prominent canyon that splits from this canyon south of the Hoover Dam is Boy Scout Canyon. Boy Scout Canyon has water running through it that is warmed from a geothermal source. In various places in Boy Scout Canyon you need to climb rope already affixed to the rock and wade through water to get higher up the canyon.

On the Arizona side of the river, there are several large hot springs that can be found by taking a trail north from a larger bay about 4 to 5 miles (6.4 to 8.0 km) south of the Hoover Dam. Special precautions however must be made when sitting in the hot pools due to the presence of the harmful and potentially fatal amoeba known as Naegleria fowleri. There are signs warning of this amoeba before the hot springs, such as in Boy Scout Canyon, but they are old and faded.

When going down Black Canyon, you may spot desert bighorn as well as other native wildlife. You may also see archaeological and mining artifacts from decades past. Throughout the Canyon you will also see volcanic rock, which came forth 20-40 million years ago.
Paddle down the colorado river on out transparent canoe, feel yourself totally surrounded by water and discover the hidden wilderness of Black Canyon. A 100% organic picnic will be cater for you in a natural environment. Indulge this beautiful journey away from the pollution and the crowd.

Sandboarding is a recreational activity similar to snowboarding that takes place on sand dunes rather than snow-covered hills. For some, it involves riding across or down a dune while standing with both feet strapped to a board, while others use a board with no bindings. The latter method is considered much more dangerous than the former.

This boardsport has adherents throughout the world, but for obvious reasons tends to be most prevalent in desert areas, or coastal areas with beach dunes.
We will take you to the largest sand dunes of Death valley and the Mojave Desert, to experience one of the most thrilling extreme sport available today.

Mount Charleston, formally named Charleston Peak, is the highest mountain of the Spring Mountains of southern Nevada, approximately 35 miles (56 km) northwest of Las Vegas. It is Nevada’s eighth highest mountain peak and is within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, the Mount Charleston Wilderness and the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area. Well separated from higher peaks by large, low basins, it is the most topographically prominent peak in Nevada, and the eighth most prominent peak in the contiguous United States.

Mount Charleston is a year-round getaway for Las Vegas’ residents and visitors, with a number of hiking trails and a modest ski area. The mountain, which is snowcapped more than half the year, can be seen from parts of the Las Vegas Strip when looking toward the west.
Either you just take the ride, to a milder temperature, and hang out at the Lodge, away from the strip. Either your heart takes you to hike to the top of the Mt Charleston…or just maybe to Mary Jane Falls or Cathedral Rock. we will either guide you or be there awaiting for you.

It is located about 15 mi west of Las Vegas, and easily seen from the Las Vegas Strip. The area is visited by over 1 million visitors each year.

The conservation area showcases a set of large red sandstone peaks and walls called the Keystone Thrust. The walls are up to 3,000 ft (1,000 m) high, making them a popular hiking and rock climbing destination. The highest point is La Madre Mountain, at 8,154 ft (2,485 m).

A one-way loop road, 13 miles (21 km) long, provides vehicle access to many of the features in the area. Several side roads and parking areas allow access to many of the trails located in the area. A visitor center is located at the start of the loop road. The loop road is very popular for bicycle touring; it begins with a moderate climb, then is mostly downhill or flat.

Valley of Fire State Park is Nevada’s oldest state park. It covers an area of 34,880 acres (14,120 ha) and was dedicated in 1935. It derives its name from red sandstone formations, formed from great shifting sand dunes during the age of dinosaurs. These features, which are the centerpiece of the park’s attractions, often appear to be on fire when reflecting the sun’s rays.

Valley of Fire is located 50 mi (80 km) northeast of Las Vegas, at an elevation between 2,000–2,600 ft (610–790 m). It abuts the Lake Me National Recreation Area at the Virgin River confluence. It lies in a 4 mi × 6 mi (6.4 km × 9.7 km) basin.

Complex uplifting and faulting of the region, followed by extensive erosion, have created the present landscape. The rough floor and jagged walls of the park contain brilliant formations of eroded sandstone and sand dunes more than 150 million years old. Other important rock formations include limestones, shales, and conglomerates.

A hundred years later the prospectors and miners of the day took over and established the notorious Techatticup Mine. Disagreements over ownership, management and labor disputes resulted in wanton killings so frequent as to be routine and ordinary. Despite the sinister reputation of the mine, it along with others in the town produced several million dollars in gold, silver, copper and lead.
